LETTERS TO THE EDITOR WINTER’S COLD DEMANDS A CONTINGENCY PLAN

Over the next three or more years, Southcentral Alaska residents face the risk of natural gas shortages.

On Jan. 27, 2026, Mr. John Sims, president of Enstar, testified before the House Energy Special Committee, delivering two critical messages. First, on Jan. 7 he sent a text to Gov. Dunleavy advising that if Anchorage temperatures fell to the 22-below-zero temperature forecast that night, Enstar would not have sufficient gas to serve its customers. Second, he noted that Enstar does not have all its supply requirements under firm contract in 2026 and beyond.
